How we make it
A receipt book is printing plus numbering plus padding, and each stage adds. Numbering is done on a machine that advances the number with every impression, so you have to decide the starting number and whether each set carries copies. Copies use bond 55 gsm, the thinnest stock the press will take; it is thin on purpose, so pen pressure transfers to the sheets underneath. The spine is then glued and the cover attached. Sequential numbering is what makes a receipt book usable as a control document, and it is also what should be checked twice before printing: a break in the sequence means redoing the whole block.
