How we make it
Letterhead is printed offset on large sheets and trimmed to size afterwards. A 77 by 110 centimetre sheet yields sixteen letter-size pages, so a thousand sheets of letterhead means about sixty-three press sheets plus makeready waste. That is why the price per thousand drops so sharply as quantity goes up: the plate and the makeready are paid once, whether you print one thousand or one hundred thousand. A single-colour letterhead, which is the most common, needs one plate. Full colour needs four. Bond 75 gsm is the office standard and feeds through any laser printer afterwards; bond 90 gsm feels noticeably firmer and is the choice when the sheet goes out to clients.
