How we make it

Padding means gluing a stack of sheets along one edge so they form a block you tear from one sheet at a time. It is what turns a pile of printed sheets into a receipt book, a prescription pad or a notepad. The process is simple but involves decisions: which edge is glued, how many sheets per block, whether there is a stiffening board behind, and whether the block carries sequential numbering. The backing board is not really optional in practice: it is what lets you write without a desk, and for a prescription pad or a field receipt book that is exactly the point. The glue has to stay flexible, so sheets tear cleanly without dragging the one below.

Frequently asked questions

How many sheets can a pad hold?
Fifty to one hundred is usual. Above one hundred the pad becomes awkward to handle and the glue works less well.
Does it include a backing board?
We recommend it in almost every case. It provides the rigidity to write without a desk, which is what a pad is used for in practice.
Can it be numbered?
Yes, sequential numbering is done in the same process. You need to specify the starting number and whether each set carries copies.
