Folded leaflets

The classic format for presenting a service or giving information. We fold on the machine, so the crease is clean and identical across the run.

How we make it

A folded leaflet is a sheet printed both sides and folded, and the fold is exactly where mistakes happen. On a three-panel leaflet the panels are not equal: the one that tucks inside has to be a few millimetres narrower, otherwise it bunches when closed and marks the paper. Build the artwork on a template with the folds marked rather than dividing the width into three equal parts. Coated 115 to 150 gsm is standard: lighter and the leaflet feels flimsy, heavier and the fold cracks unless the sheet is scored first. It prints full colour on both sides, so four plates per side.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the three panels not the same width?
Because one of them tucks inside when the leaflet closes. If it matches the others, it hits the crease and the leaflet will not close flat. It needs a few millimetres taken off.
What weight should I use?
Between 115 and 150 gsm coated. Lighter feels flimsy in the hand; heavier and the fold cracks unless the sheet is scored before folding.
How many folds can you do?
Two is normal for a three-panel leaflet. More is possible, but each additional fold complicates the folding and past a point it has to be done by hand, which raises the cost of the run.
