How do I make sure colours match what I see on screen?

Screens work in RGB and the press in CMYK, so there is always some difference. What settles it is a printed colour proof before plates are made, while adjustments are still possible.

Matte or gloss coated?

Gloss if photographs dominate. Matte if there is a fair amount of text, because gloss reflects and tires the reader.

Can I change prices without reprinting the whole catalogue?

Yes, if prices sit on a loose sheet or insert from the start. That is what most businesses updating rates each season do.

How we make it

With a catalogue, what is at stake is colour accuracy, because the customer will compare the photograph against the actual product. That starts before the press: images have to arrive in CMYK at sufficient resolution, and it is worth seeing a colour proof before plates are made. Gloss coated stock renders photographs most sharply and is the common choice; matte looks more restrained and reads better when there is a lot of text between images. A product catalogue gets consulted repeatedly, so a laminated cover is not a cosmetic extra: it is what stops it falling apart in three months. If the catalogue is updated each season, keep prices on a loose insert.
