How we make it

A school yearbook has one characteristic no other job shares: every single copy matters to a particular family, so a misspelled name or a swapped photograph cannot be patched with a note. Checking names is the slowest part and should be closed before anything reaches the press. Technically it is a full-colour book: coated interior so photographs reproduce well, laminated cover, paperback or hardback binding. The twenty working day lead time runs from locked artwork. Since delivery is almost always tied to a fixed end-of-year date, the sensible approach is to count backwards from that date and leave room for a last-minute correction, which nearly always appears.

Frequently asked questions

When should we start a yearbook?
Counting backwards from the delivery date, allowing the twenty working days of production plus the time to gather and check photographs and names, which in practice takes longest.
Can individual copies be personalised?
Personalising each copy requires digital printing, which uses no plates. The two can be combined: the bulk offset and a handful of personalised copies digitally.
What happens if an error appears after printing?
It depends where. An error on an interior page can be handled with an erratum slip or by reprinting that signature, but an error on the cover means redoing it. That is why the proofing stage is not the place to cut corners.
