How we make it

A paper bag involves more manual steps than anything else in the catalogue, and that is where the fifteen-day lead time comes from. It is printed flat, die-cut, folded, glued, and then the handle is fitted, and that last part is done by hand. The usual material is heavy coated stock or triplex, depending on the weight it has to carry: a boutique bag and a bag that holds books are not the same bag. The handle can be cord, ribbon, or die-cut into the paper itself, which is the cheapest and the least durable. Lamination is not cosmetic on a bag: it is what stops the paper tearing along the base fold.

Frequently asked questions

Why do they take longer than other jobs?
Because after printing there is die-cutting, folding, gluing and handle fitting, and much of that is manual work. Printing is the fast part.
Which handle should I choose?
It depends on the weight. Die-cut into the paper is cheapest but tears under load. Cord holds more and looks better. Ribbon sits in between.
How much weight will it hold?
It depends on material and handle, which is why it helps to say what goes inside when asking for a quote. A bag designed for clothing tears if you load it with books.
